Spring Term 2012
For the Spring Term we will be using our Topic called 'Homes' to help the children develop their understanding of Geography, History and Science.
In Geography we will study the use of maps and plans to recognise features of our own surroundings and the types of buildings that are contained within the local area. We shall also look at our environment and the effects of pollution on the area we live in.
This will naturally link into History, where we will study how houses and their contents have changed and also how towns and villages have developed over the years.
In Science we will look at the electrical circuits, conductors and insulators and how they help us in our homes. As well as this we will look at light and dark and investigate various light sources, and materials for houses.
We will explore the topic using Art and Design to interpret and express ideas through a varied choice of mediums and techniques which will help the children understand the topic more fully.
For R.E. we will continue to explore ideas including symbols and special stories through the traditions and ceremonies of different faiths.
In Literacy the children will carry on developing their skills by experiencing a varied choice of literature and then by using their experiences to inform oral practise of these genres before writing. We will also be settling back into our Letters and Sounds phonics programme.
In Numeracy the children will be progressing their addition and subtraction skillls through a variety of practical activities and scenarios, and they will also be collecting and organising data to help answer questions.
Autumn Term 2011/12
This term's topic is 'Toys' and the children will be using this topic as a vehicle for developing many different areas of learning.
