Special Education Needs

The school aims to have a positive approach to all children. We seek to foster enjoyment and confidence in all they undertake, focusing on what each child can rather than cannot do. The school endeavours to work closely with parents to encourage the confidence and self image of all children. We aim to give every child access to the National Curriculum, which is carefully planned to enable progression. Where children experience difficulties, support will be matched to individual needs.

Miss Smith is the school's co-ordinator for special educational needs, (SENCO), and where necessary we draw upon  members of the County's Learning Support Service to provide assistance with assessment and the planning of appropriate work for individual children. The school employs approximately one full time teaching assistant for KS 1 class, and five teaching assistants to support Literacy and Numeracy in KS 2.  We follow a staged approach to special educational needs in line with the current "Special Educational Needs Code of Practice" , and make every effort to accommodate children with disabilities.

The school has a clear policy  on racism and will not tolerate prejudice in any form. The Deputy Headteacher has a key responsibility in this, and all incidents are reported, recorded and dealt with.

The school is committed to an inclusive approach to education and every reasonable effort is made to attempt to accommodate children with disabilities, though specific individual requirements may depend upon the availability of additional external funding.

Whenever modifications to school premises are proposed, Governors consider improvements to access for children and adults with disabilities.
